As I’ve mentioned in earlier articles, my husband was a bit concerned about my faith and its affects on our son especially now that he has started school. I won’t lie, the first week or so was rough. He got his first behavior report after getting into a yelling match with a little girl who told him that he could not talk to animals. Big mistake. My son has been babbling away to animals since he first spoke. His first word was dog, after all.

Anyway, thanks again to Rowling and a quick reminder that there are things that muggles don’t understand and its best not to scare them with it. No more problems like that since. Of course, we spent today playing with Froud’s oracle cards and dowsing rods so I can only imagine what school on Monday will bring. Hey, he wasn’t feeling well and he really likes the faeries not to mention the satisfaction of the dowsing rods.

This brings me back to my original thought. Sorry for the tangent. Now that my son is meeting all these new children he really wants to spend time playing with them. Cool. Any parent knows that good play makes good sleep. Our only problem seems to be that all of his friends want to come over here. They show up on our door or call, even parents invite themselves over. I’ve asked why as my son whines for the hundredth time that the neighbor’s son always wants to play here and I keep getting the same answer. It feels good at our house. Here shoes come off at the door because you want to not because you don’t want dirty shoes. People plop down on couches and fall asleep curled around a pillow. Sitting on the floor is always in style. Sometimes they can’t figure out why, calling me Martha Stewart and the like, but the easy answer is that I clean. Not just surface dirt but the stuff that Pagans understand.

Sage sticksThere is a bag of white sage on the counter for whenever things get stuck and incense and herbs in various drawers and bottles. This is something fun that my son and I started when we moved into the house three years ago. I was going around our new house smudging the yuck out when I noticed my son following me. It didn’t take long before his clear eyes were seeing places I missed or places that needed a bit more oomph. Soon he was giving the blessing chant and then carrying whichever incense he thought best to bring joy to the house.

A couple of weeks ago I put a crystal grid around the house and invited my son to join in. Or should I say run the show. He was guided by instinct to places that I had to meditate and chart to find. Once we were finished he led me back to the front of the house with one of his own crystals. I started to give him a simple visualization on pulling in energy from the ground and the moon which he took and ran with. By the time he was finished leading me I was nearly in tears it was so sweet and beautiful.

Since then we’ve had more people pass through our door. And the children keep coming. One child didn’t want to leave because, as she told her mother, it’s always Halloween at our house. He doesn’t understand yet how hard it is to find places of comfort in this world. Hopefully he’ll never find out. But if he does I hope he’ll remember how hard we worked so our positive energy would fill those around us with joy, peace and comfort.
